Professor Graham Farquhar, FAA, FRS
Graham Farquhar is Professor of Environmental Biology and Associate Director of the Research School of Biological Sciences, Australian National University.
Professor Farquhar has established an international reputation as a research leader on the interaction between plants and the environment. He developed models of photosynthesis and carbon and oxygen isotope discrimination that lead to a greater understanding of the way plants function. As a result Australia is now a world leader in developing water-efficient crops.
Graham Farquhar has received a number of awards including the Gottschalk Medal for distinguished research in biological sciences in 1983; the CSIRO medal for research achievement in 1991; and the Royal Society of Tasmania R M Johnstone Memorial Medal in 2006. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of London in 1995.
