MS 052 – THE WALTER AND ELIZA HALL INSTITUTE OF RESEARCH IN PATHOLOGY AND MEDICINE

Founded 1916 in Melbourne. Now known as the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research. The Institute was endowed originally by the Hall Trust. It specialises in virus diseases and clinical research into diseases and operates in the Royal Melbourne Hospital in conjunction with the University of Melbourne.

52/1-2    Correspondence

Correspondence, mostly typescript, and laboratory results of tests on sera. The correspondence relates to the early work on Q fever at the Institute and at the Laboratory of Microbiology and Pathology, Brisbane. The bulk of the correspondence relates to the period 1936-1940. The letters are predominantly from Dr F M Burnet, later Director of the Institute and Professor of Experimental Medicine, to Dr E H Derrick.
