The Genetics Society of Australia was founded in 1952 to promote the advancement of the science of genetics. Its interest cover the fields of animal and plant breeding, biochemical and molecular genetics, biometrical and statistical genetics, cytogenetics, developmental genetics, ecological and population genetics, human genetics and microbial genetics.
The Society conducts one general meeting per year.
