Cotton was Professor of Geology and Physical Geography at the University of Sydney 1925-48 after being associated with the department from 1908.

  6. "Voyage of the Nimrod": album of Antarctic photographs. Photographs in the front section were taken by Professor LA Cotton during Sir Ernest Shackleton's 1907-08 expedition. Photographs in the back section were taken by a member of Scott's last expedition and given to Professor Cotton (donor uncertain)
