Alan Head was a research scientist in the Division of Tribophysics, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) 1957-1981; Chief Research Scientist, CSIRO Division of Chemical Physics 1981-1987 and Chief Research Scientist, CSIRO Division of Materials Science 1987-1990.
