Professor Leon Mann, Centre Director, Centre for Research and Development Leadership, University of Melbourne, Victoria

Professor Mann is the Director of the Centre for R&D Leadership and is a Professorial Fellow in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne. From 1991 to 2003, he taught at Melbourne Business School where he was Pratt Family Chair of Leadership and Decision Making. He is the immediate Past President of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia.

Leon has held Australian Research Council SPIRT grants with BHP, Orica, DSTO, CSIRO, Motorola and Sustainable Energy Authority Victoria as industry partners in the areas of R&D leadership, knowledge sharing, and effective collaboration in research organisations. He chairs the Business Higher Education Round Table awards committee for excellence in R&D collaboration, is a member of the CRC Association awards committee for research excellence, and served on the Minister's National Research Priorities Consultative Panel and Expert Advisory Committee 2002–2003.

His research and development articles have been on factors influencing innovation; models of leadership and communication; creativity in project teams; team climate and innovativeness; leadership and trust in project teams; and factors in successful research collaboration between industry and universities.

He is the co-author with Irving Janis of Decision-making (1977), and his other books include Developing Leaders in R&D (1994) and Leadership, Management and Innovation in R&D Project Teams (2005).
