EARLY-CAREER RESEARCHER INFORMATION

The Academy hosts numerous events and provides research support to early-career researchers. Below is a list of recent and forthcoming activities.


2007 High Flyers Think Tank – Extreme natural hazards
Melbourne, 30 October 2007
The Academy’s High Flyers Think Tank series brings together early- and mid-career researchers from a broad range of disciplines to engage in thinking about novel applications of existing science and technology, and to identify gaps in knowledge that might be addressed when applying science (including social science) and technology to a particular issue.

Symposium: Australian Frontiers of Science 2008
Canberra, 21–22 February 2008
These symposia bring together the very best young Australian scientists to discuss emerging technologies, new opportunities and exciting cutting-edge advances in their fields.

Australia–Korea Early Career S&T Researchers Programme to Korea
14 April–13 June 2008

Annual General Meeting, Symposium and Early-career researchers program
Science at the Shine Dome, Canberra, 7–8 May 2008
Science at the Shine Dome is an annual three-day event held by the Academy. It incorporates the Annual General Meeting, induction of new Fellows, presentation of awards and a scientific symposium. A special early-career researcher program additionally includes a career development workshop.

National Science Foundation East Asia and Pacific Summer Program for US graduate students
16–18 June 2008
This program provides US graduate students in science and engineering first-hand research experience to conduct research in Australian laboratories and to initiate personal relationships with their Australian counterparts.

58th Lindau Nobel Laureates Meeting, dedicated to physics

Inquiry–based science education : A national curriculum
National Press Club Address by Professor Julie Campbell (Secretary Education and Public Awareness), Canberra, 2 July 2008
Invited PhD students are given complementary tickets to the Academy’s Annual National Press Club Address.

Annual postdoctoral fellowships for Australian researchers to work in institutes affiliated with JSPS.

PhD Joint Tutorship – Cotutelle program
Applications close early December 2008
An association between the French Embassy in Australia and the Academy to jointly operate a unique French–Australian double doctoral degree.
