Sue Serjeantson Sue Serjeantson has a science degree from the University of New South Wales and PhD from the University of Hawaii. After five years with the Papua New Guinea Institute of Medical Research, she joined the John Curtin School of Medical Research at the Australian National University (ANU) in 1976. In 1988 she was appointed as Professor and Head of the Department of Human Genetics at ANU. Her research contributions in human molecular genetics and in improving the outcome of organ transplantation have been recognised by the National Clunies-Ross Award for Science and Technology and the Ruth Sanger Medal. From 1994–97 she was Director of the Institute of Advanced Studies and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, ANU.

Sue was honorary President (2000–01) of the Federation of Australian Scientific and Technological Societies (FASTS), an ex officio member of the Prime Minster’s Science, Engineering and Innovation Council (2000–01) and President of the National Youth Science Forum. She was appointed an Officer in the Order of Australia in 2000 for contributions to medical research, academic administration and science advocacy.
