What’s Cooking at the Shine Dome

This year’s Shine Dome open day promises to be a feast of chemical delights – a smorgasbord of science – with a food chemistry theme to celebrate the International Year of Chemistry.

It will be a fun and interactive family-focused event, with presentations on food allergies and anaphylaxis, the science of taste, what GI means, how the body uses energy and a special reading of The Monster That Ate Canberra by author Michael Salmon. We’re also going to have stands explaining and demonstrating molecular gastronomy, food safety, the chemistry of wine production, salt, zinc, and more. The kids’ room will feature a treasure hunt, colouring in, a food classification game and other activities. Guided tours will highlight the many intriguing facets of the Shine Dome's architecture and of course there is a sausage sizzle and copious coffee.
