Teachers program

The Australian Academy of Science offered a special program for teachers in conjunction with Science at the Shine Dome. Each state and territory Catholic, independent and state education authority was invited to send one representative. In addition, science teachers who received Australian Academy of Science Teacher Awards also attended.

Wednesday 5 May
New Fellows seminar
9.30am-4.00pm New Fellows seminar
New Academy Fellows each presented 10-minute talks about their research.
6.00-7.30pm Launch of 50th Anniversary Exhibition
Eureka moments! Highlights of 50 years of Australian science.
7.30-9.30pm Informal dinner
Short presentations were made by early-career researchers and award winners.
Thursday 6 May
Awards and admission of new Fellows
9.30am-1.10pm Awards presentation
Admission of Fellows and presentations by award winners.
2.30-5.00pm Education workshop
A presentation was made by eminent IVF researcher Professor Alan Trounson.
7.00 for 7.30pm Annual dinner
Teachers were seated amongst Fellows and young researchers.

This symposium featured eight of Australia's top young scientists – all previous winners of the Malcolm McIntosh Prize for Physical Scientist of the Year or the Science Minister's Prize for Life Scientist of the Year.
