The Academy’s annual Teachers’ Program offers teachers from around Australia the unique opportunity to meet the nation’s highest-calibre scientists, and to hear about cutting-edge science across the disciplines. Teachers will hear about the latest in discovery and innovation, and engage in a hands-on professional learning program at the Academy’s annual three-day celebration, Science at the Shine Dome.
Included in this year’s Teachers’ Program is a presentation by Anita Trenwith, winner of the 2012 Science Minister's Prime Minister’s Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Secondary Schools. Anita will present an informative session on engaging kids in the classroom.

| “Its not often that you get someone who willingly gives up their time to aid you in reaching your goals, Anita not only gave up her time to assist me when I was determined to complete 6 subjects in year 12, but also as I continued on to uni. Anita found opportunities for me to explore the sciences outside of school which lead me to my career; I currently work as an Underground Drill and Blast Engineer in WA. Anita’s fun and interactive classes made me want to pursue in the sciences and I was fortunate to have a teacher who inspires and drives a desire to study science and follow a path to include it in every day life” - Jodie Moss (former school student and engineering graduate) |
Science at the Shine Dome teacher delegates will meet the Academy’s Science by Doing and Primary Connections teams and experience a sneak preview of the digital curriculum units under development. Science by Doing and Primary Connections – our innovative secondary and primary education programs - support teachers to engage students with hands-on, inquiry-based science.
Also participating in the program is the 2013 WOW winners from each state. The winners shared a WOW experiments and activities that engage students and demonstrate the wonders of science and mathematics. View the winning entries on the Science by Doing page.
