GROUP A: Ocean and coastline research on resources and infrastructure
Rapporteur: Dr David Burbidge
David Burbidge has an honours degree in mathematics and physics and a PhD in Earth sciences from the Australian National University. Since 2001 he has been working as a research scientist at Geoscience Australia.
David’s main area of interest is in quantifying the level of hazard faced by Australia from earthquakes and tsunamis. In the last few years, he has written and co-authored several reports and papers assessing the level of tsunami hazard faced by Australia and the region. He has also provided scientific advice to a project funded by the Australian Government designed to provide an early warning to Australia of an approaching tsunami. David thus has experience in all aspects of tsunami disaster research, including planning for the disaster before the event and responding to one once it occurs. Other than earthquakes and tsunamis, his other main research interests are plate tectonics, geodynamics and the physics of subduction zones.
