GROUP C: Terrestrial research on resources and infrastructure
Rapporteur: Dr Michael Charles
Michael Charles has a PhD in ancient history from the University of Queensland. He has worked as a senior research assistant and now lectures in business and public policy with the School of Management at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. He is a co-chief investigator on an Australian Research Council Linkage grant examining the airport metropolis and is co-leading the development of a rail corridor sustainability planning system with the Cooperative Research Centre for Rail.
Michael has recently published in Energy Policy and Futures regarding challenges to existing transport infrastructure systems, with similar work presented at international and domestic conferences. His work has been accepted in International Journal of Risk Assessment and Management and International Journal of Public Sector Management, and in a book. He has also been invited to contribute to a book entitled Global Sustainability Initiatives. He is currently looking at infrastructure and policy issues pertaining to emissions trading and carbon sequestration. With his background in the humanities and international business, Michael brings an interdisciplinary perspective to transport and energy infrastructure policy, especially with respect to the interface between public policy, science and philosophy.
