The universe: Looking out – looking forward

The oldest field of scientific endeavour, astronomy, has been revolutionised by technological advances over the last 50 years, enabling astronomers to unlock the secrets of the heavens. Australia has been at the forefront of this rapid progress in technology and understanding, providing a wealth of scientific discoveries out of all proportion to our population and economy.
