AUSTRALIA-ITALY AWARDS FOR PHD STUDENTS AND EARLY POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHERS

This program has now closed.

This award has been set up with the proceeds from the sale of the book What If They Never Existed, written by Dr Nicola Sasanelli, Science and Technology Counsellor at the Embassy of Italy in Canberra since 2001. The award also has the financial support of the Australian Academy of Science.

Aim of the award

The award is aimed at recognizing excellence in research cooperation between Australia and Italy and to foster further research activity among PhD students and early postdoctoral researchers who have been conferred in the last 10 years between 1999 and 2008.

Areas

Proposals in any field of natural science, basic and applied, including mathematics and engineering science, will be considered.

Information on the award

One Australian and two Italian PhD students and early postdoctoral researchers will be supported under this award. They will be expected to undertake research in counterpart Italian and Australian institutions respectively, for a period of 1-3 months. Travel will need to take place between 1 January 2009 and 31 December 2009. Each successful applicant will receive up to A$5,000.

Eligibility

Australian applicants must be Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents living in Australia at the time of application.

Italian applicants must be living in Italy at the time of application.

Applicants must be a PhD student or an early Postdoctoral researcher.
