CONGRATULATIONS AND A WORD WITH SIR GUS
27 January 2000
The Australian Academy of Science has congratulated Sir Gustav Nossal, President of the Academy from 1994 to 1998, on becoming Australian of the Year.
Sir Gus was interviewed in 1998 about his last ten years as director of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, his activities with the World Health Organization, and his appointment as deputy chairman of the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation. The interview, which was conducted by Dr Max Blythe, is part of the Academy's Video Histories of Australian Scientists project. An edited transcript is available at www.science.org.au/scientists/gn.htm.
A copy of the video, which is approximately 100 minutes long, can be purchased from the Academy. An earlier video interview from 1987, in which Sir Gus talks about his research on cellular immunology, antibody formation and tolerance, can also be purchased.
