SCIENCE AT THE SHINE DOME

The Australian Academy of Science is holding its annual Science at the Shine Dome at the Shine Dome, Gordon Street, Canberra on 4-6 May 2005. The three-day program includes:

Wednesday 4 May, 9.30am-4.40pm

Flinders Lecture 9.35am-10.10am
Voyage of Discovery
Professor Ronald Ekers, FAA, CSIRO Australia Telescope National Facility
Professor Ekers will discuss the birth of radio astronomy, the important discoveries made with this revolutionary technology and the curious paths radio astronomers often take on their 'voyage of discovery'.

New Fellows Seminar 10.10am-4.30pm
New Academy Fellows will each present a 10-minute talk about their research, followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion.

Thursday 5 May, 9.30am-1.10pm

Awards presentation
Admission of Fellows and presentations by winners of awards for research excellence, including the Flinders Medal.

Friday 6 May, 8.50am-4.30pm

Public Symposium – Recent Advances in Stem Cell Science and Therapies
The symposium features ten leading stem cell researchers from Australia and around the world. The latest discoveries, potential therapies and ethical issues raised by stem cell research will be addressed. The program is available at http://www.science.org.au/sats2005/symposium.htm.
