Investing in excellence in health and medical research

NHMRC

The NHMRC has been supporting health and medical research and providing independent advice on all aspects of health and health care delivery in Australia since 1936. The NHMRC is charged with inquiring into and advising the community on matters relating to health, disease, health care, health ethics, as well as health and medical research. It also makes recommendations to the Government on its allocation of funds for health and medical research in Australia.

The Council itself consists of experts selected from a broad range of backgrounds including public health, health-care training, medicine, nursing, science, consumer, social welfare, the environment and business as well as from Australian Government, State and Territory health authorities.
