Activity 1 | Cleaner production – a solution to pollution?

Cleaner production in a particleboard mill

  1. Use the internet to find out about some of the environmental effects of wood mills. Summarise your findings in 5-10 bullet points.

 

 

 

 

According to the United Nations Environment Program, cleaner production in industry can be achieved through the following strategies:

  • conserving raw materials and energy,
  • eliminating toxic raw materials, and
  • reducing the quantity and toxicity of all emissions and wastes.
  1. Explain how Carter Holt Harvey has used these strategies at their particleboard mill in Tumut, NSW to achieve cleaner production.
