The quest to make hydrogen the fuel of the future

Activities

Science Projects (California Energy Commission, USA)

Splitting water – electrolysis is used to split water into hydrogen and oxygen.

Lemon power – students make a battery from a lemon.

Lab Notes (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Hydrogen car – a number of simple activities for students about hydrogen cars based on an article by Karl Kruszelnicki.

US Department of Energy

H2 educate student guide – a two-week multidisciplinary unit that includes a fuel cell simulation, element modeling, an electrolysis experiment and hydrogen in society jig-saw. The unit looks at the energy in the United States and the role of hydrogen as a fuel. It is based around a kit but could be easily adapted for use without the kit. A Teacher Guide is also available.

Welcome to hydrogen and fuel cells: A middle school activity guide – contains an extensive range of clear resources and activities on hydrogen production, storage and safety.

Hydrogen and fuel cells: How is hydrogen produced, delivered and stored – a clear PowerPoint presentation on hydrogen production, storage and delivery (worksheets are available in the activity guide above).
