Roger Beckmann is one of Australia's most experienced freelance science communicators. With an Honours degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge (UK), he learnt his trade during six years working in CSIRO's Science Communication Unit where he was a science writer for the magazine Ecos. He has also worked as a science and biology teacher in the UK and Europe, and remains closely involved with high school biology education as a senior examiner with the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).

Roger has worked extensively with the Australian Academy of Science, most notably as writer of the landmark textbook Environmental Science, published in 1994. As well as continuing his association as a science writer and editor for the Academy since then, his other clients have included: the Australian Government Department of Environment, Sports and Territories; the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO), UK & Switzerland; the CSIRO magazines Ecos, Rural Research and The Helix; The Canberra Times; CSIRO Central Information Network; CSIRO Land and Water; the ACT Commissioner for the Environment; Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR); AusAID; National Environment Protection Council; CRC for Freshwater Ecology.
