Elizabeth Finkel grew up enthralled by the stories told by science and became a research scientist, ultimately turning her attention to the mystery of how living organisms sculpt perfect bodies out of mushy eggs, while at the University of California in San Francisco. On returning to Australia 15 years ago, she switched to telling the stories of other scientists.

In that time she has written for scientists in international journals like Science (it's hard for them to follow what's going on outside their microscopic field of view) and for the public in radio programs like the ABC's Science Show and Ockham's Razor. She enjoys telling science stories to the public. In her view they are breathtaking tales of mystery and adventure, with a never-ending cast of fractious, fierce, colourful and sometimes brilliant characters. You can contact her via email at ellaf@bigpond.net.au. Her book 'Stem cells – controversy on the frontiers of science' is also avaliable.
