David Salt has been writing about science and scientists for much of the last two decades. Working with CSIRO Education he developed a newsletter for students into a nationally acclaimed magazine called The Helix. Following that he became active in the area of conservation science while serving as Communication Manager for CSIRO Wildlife and Ecology. More recently he served as editor of Newton, Australian Geographic's magazine of popular science. He's currently based in Canberra as a freelance writer/editor. David believes the key to good communication is conveying the excitement a researcher feels for their area of science. The key to good science is understanding how and why it's relevant to society, and making sure there's an informed debate on how it's applied. David has a BSc (Hons) majoring in marine ecology. In addition to science writing and editing, he has also a strong background in environmental education, photography and design. You can contact him by email at ywords@netspeed.com.au.
