Richard Upton specialises in making complex topics comprehensible to the non-specialist. With a BSc in Engineering (University of London), a BA(Hons) in Literature and History (University of Essex), a Graduate Diploma in Communications (University of Canberra) and an unusually wide working and writing experience, he is well equipped to write about almost any technical topic. In addition to numerous feature and technical articles in newspapers and magazines, he has written two books: Telecommuting for Envirobooks and Safe and Secure for the Australian Consumers Association. Richard is not only a writer. He has 'hands-on' experience of working on technical projects as disparate as the rail system for the iron ore mines in Port Hedland (WA); electron beam microscopes in Cambridge (UK); a chemical refinery upgrade in Altona (Vic); and a theme park in Cincinnati (USA). More recently Richard has undertaken consultancy work for the Commonwealth and Victorian governments – including a spell as Communication Manager for the CSIRO Division of Information Technology. Current projects include creative work for several World Wide Web sites. You can contact Richard via email at richard-upton@netinfo.com.au; by phone on (02) 62496372; or by fax on (02) 62496902.
