Facilitators

PrimaryConnections facilitators and Professional
Learning Team at the professional learning workshop.
PrimaryConnections is first, and foremost,
a professional learning programme for teachers supported by quality curriculum resources.
In January 2006, 88 people undertook three days training as professional learning facilitators for the PrimaryConnections project. These people are instrumental in facilitating professional learning workshops for teachers in their jurisdictions and regions.
The trained facilitators are located in each state and territory and represent all sectors
of education – government, catholic and independent.
There is a range of professional learning that each facilitator can provide including:
- introduction to PrimaryConnections – full day session;
- science coordinators workshop – full day session;
- investigating – 90 minute module;
- assessment – 90 minute module;
- auditing – 90 minute module, and
- literacies of science – 90 minute module.
The introduction to PrimaryConnections session is recommended to schools using PrimaryConnections for the first time. The 90 minute modules are each being reviewed and will be modified throughout the duration of the programme.
The PrimaryConnections website contains a list of contact people who coordinate the activities of facilitators. Please contact the coordinator in your state if you are interested in having a facilitator conduct professional learning at your school.
In January 2007, a further group of people will be trained as professional learning facilitators for the PrimaryConnections project. The workshop will be held at the Australian Academy of Science in Canberra over 3 days during the school holidays. If you are interested in becoming a professional learning facilitator, please contact the relevant department in your state. Calls for nominees will be made in September 2006.
A Professional Learning Support Officer has been contracted by the Academy to support both facilitators and teachers as the professional learning programme progresses. The Professional Learning Support Officer may be contacted by email lr@science.org.au or phone 1800 027 535.
