Australian Academy of Science Teacher Awards

The Academy sponsored awards for a secondary teacher from each State and Territory to attend its annual Science at the Shine Dome. This event included the New Fellows Seminar, awards presentation, education workshop and annual symposium. The topic of the symposium was Nanoscience.

Those who attended:

  • learnt about the latest research across a range of science disciplines
  • met and spoke with renowned scientists and young researchers
  • exchanged ideas and curriculum materials with interstate colleagues.

The Awards included:

  • free registration for all the Science at the Shine Dome events, 30 April to 2 May
  • return airfares to Canberra
  • lunches and morning and afternoon teas, 30 April to 2 May
  • a formal dinner on 1 May with Fellows of the Academy and an informal dinner with young researchers on 30 April
  • accommodation with other teachers for the nights of 30 April and 1 May (also 29 April for participants from Western Australia and the Northern Territory).

The award was open to secondary science teachers. Selection was based on merit. Selection criteria included the applicant's interest and involvement in classroom teaching related to the symposium topic, their contributions to the profession of science teaching and their commitment to disseminating to colleagues the information gained at the symposium.

The awards were organised jointly with the Australian Science Teachers Association. ASTA logo
