CELEBRATING 50 YEARS
Early-career researchers program

The Australian Academy of Science offered a special program for early-career researchers, outlined below, in conjunction with Science at the Shine Dome. Those who attended:

  • learnt about the latest research across a range of science disciplines;
  • met and exchanged ideas with renowned scientists, science teachers and other early-career researchers; and
  • participated in a career development workshop.
Wednesday 5 May
9.30am-4.00pm New Fellows seminar
New Academy Fellows each presented 10-minute talks about their research.
6.00-7.30pm Launch of 50th Anniversary Exhibition
Eureka moments! Highlights of 50 years of Australian science.
7.30-9.30pm Informal dinner
Short presentations were made by early-career researchers and award winners.
Thursday 6 May
9.30am-1.10pm Awards presentation
Admission of Fellows and presentations by award winners.
2.30-5.00pm Career development workshop
Presentations were available on two themes – media and communication skills and writing ARC grant proposals – followed by presentations from participants in the Academy's international exchanges program.
7.00 for 7.30pm Annual dinner
Early career researchers were seated amongst Fellows and teachers.
Friday 7 May
8.50am-3.25pm Annual symposium
A Celebration of Australian Science

This symposium featured eight of Australia's top young scientists – all previous winners of the Malcolm McIntosh Prize for Physical Scientist of the Year or the Science Minister's Prize for Life Scientist of the Year.
