Teachers program

The Australian Academy of Science offered a special program for teachers, outlined below, in conjunction with Science at the Shine Dome. Those who attended:

  • learnt about the latest research across a range of science disciplines
  • met with renowned scientists and young researchers
  • exchanged ideas and curriculum materials with interstate colleagues and
  • participated in an education workshop.

Catholic, Independent and State education authorities were invited to send representatives. In addition, teachers who received Australian Academy of Science Teacher Awards also attended. The registration fee was $495 for the program.

Wednesday 3 May

New Academy Fellows each presented 10-minute talks about their research.

Informal dinner
Short presentations were made by early-career researchers and award winners.
Thursday 4 May

Awards presentation
Admission of Fellows and presentations by awardees.
2.30-5.00pm
Innovations Building, ANU
Education Workshop
Included a presentation by earth scientist Professor Will Steffen, and discussion with readers in science education.
7.00 for 7.30pm

Parliament House
Annual dinner
Teachers were seated amongst Fellows and young researchers.

Annual symposium
Science on the way to the hydrogen economy
This symposium featured eminent Australian and overseas researchers.
