Early-career researchers program

The Australian Academy of Science is offering a special program for early-career researchers, outlined below, in conjunction with Science at the Shine Dome. Those who attend will:

  • learn about the latest research across a range of science disciplines;
  • meet and exchange ideas with renowned scientists, science teachers and other early-career researchers; and
  • participate in a career development workshop.

The CSIRO, CRCs, universities and research organisations have been invited to send representatives. The registration fee is $495 for the program. If your institution has not received an invitation, please contact Kathryn Edmondson at kathryn.edmondson@science.org.au.

Matthew Flinders Lecture and New Fellows Seminar
Professor Peter Hall FAA FRS will present the 2007 Matthew Flinders Lecture. New Academy Fellows will each present a 12-minute talk about their research, followed by an opportunity for questions. Includes lunch.

Informal dinner
Short presentations by Academy Fellows, and a chance to chat in an informal environment.

THURSDAY, 3 MAY

Awards presentation
Admission of New Fellows and presentations by Awardees, followed by lunch.
2.30pm-5.00pm
Career Development Workshop
Presentations on two themes – 'Probability errors and cognitive bias in science and everyday life' presented by Professor Simon Gandevia, and media and communication skills.
6.30pm Buses from Liversidge Court/University House to Parliament House.
7.00 for 7.30pm

Annual dinner
Early-career researchers are seated amongst Fellows and teachers.
After dinner speaker: His Excellency the Governor-General of Australia, Major General Jeffery.
Dress: Black tie/cocktail dress.

Annual symposium
Development and evolution of higher cognition in animals
This year’s symposium will feature eminent Australian and overseas researchers. Includes lunch.
