He was an Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago in the USA from 1984 to 1987 before he became a lecturer at the ANU. He held the Chair of Statistics at the University of Southampton in the UK from 2001 to 2003, and is currently at the ANU where he is the EJ Hannan Professor of Statistics. Modelling and analysis of clustered data
by Professor Alan Welsh

Clustered data are very common in practice, occurring whenever groups of units in a study are related or when the same units are observed several times. Alan presents simple examples of clustered data and discusses some issues which arise in the modelling and analysis of such data. In particular, he considers different possible models for clustered data, explores differences between them and discusses the implications of these differences. Alan will also discuss briefly the difference between analysis at the individual and at the cluster level.
