Teachers program

The Australian Academy of Science offered a special program for teachers, outlined below, in conjunction with Science at the Shine Dome. Those who attended:

  • learnt about the latest research across a range of science disciplines
  • met and talked with renowned scientists and young researchers
  • exchanged ideas and curriculum materials with interstate colleagues and
  • participated in an education workshop.

Catholic, Independent and State education authorities were invited to send representatives. In addition, teachers who received Australian Academy of Science Teacher Awards attended.

WEDNESDAY, 7 MAY

8.30am

9.30am-10.00am

2008 Macfarlane Burnet Lecture
Presented by Professor Richard Shine, FAA

10.15am-4.00pm

New Fellows Seminar
New Academy Fellows each presented 12 minute talks about their research, followed by questions. Included lunch.

7.00-9.00pm

Informal dinner
Short presentations to awardees and a chance to chat in an informal environment.


THURSDAY, 8 MAY

9.30am-1.10pm

Formal admission of New Fellows and presentations by Academy awardees.

1.15pm-2.30pm

Lunch

2.30pm-5.00pm

Education Workshop

6.30pm

Buses to the Australian War Memorial.

7.00 for 7.30pm

Annual dinner
ANZAC Hall, Australian War Memorial
Dress: Black tie/cocktail dress


FRIDAY, 9 MAY
8.45am-4.00pm

Annual symposium
Dangerous climate change: Is it inevitable?
Featured eminent Australian and overseas researchers. Included lunch.

4.15pm
