Science by Doing professional learning resources won the 2011 eLearning Association of Victoria Excellence Awards in the Lifelong Learning category. The resources were recognised for their innovation in design and development, quality of content and audience engagement. Well done team!
The purpose of Science by Doing is to improve science learning by:
- engaging secondary students through an inquiry-based approach.
- supporting school-based science teaching teams that acknowledge and build upon teacher expertise.
To accomplish this goal, the Science by Doing project has developed three important components: These components were trialled in Australian high schools during 2010.
The Professional Learning Approach includes establishing professional learning communities within a school with an emphasis on leadership.
The curriculum resources are inquiry-based and use digital technology in innovative ways.
The professional learning resources also use digital technology in innovative ways.
Science by Doing resources support the implementation of the Australian Curriculum: Science.
