On 09 February 2024, the Academy made a submission on the New National Environmental Laws.
The scope of this submission is confined to the material covered at the October and December 2023 consultation sessions held by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
The new legislation should focus on safeguarding Australia’s unique and evolutionarily significant biodiversity and environment, adding climate change considerations at every level and incorporating scientific expertise in decision-making processes.
