About the Australian Academy of Science

The position is based at an iconic heritage site—the Shine Dome. The Shine Dome is part of the Australian Academy of Science, which was founded by Royal Charter in 1954 and has an elected Fellowship of 540 leading Australian scientists. The Academy is a non-profit organisation that provides independent, authoritative and influential scientific advice, promotes international scientific engagement, builds public awareness and understanding, and champions, celebrates and supports excellence in Australian science. This position is part of a Secretariat of around 75 staff who work as a team to support activities of the Academy.

About the role

Responsible to:                 Venue Manager

Responsible for:                Nil – No Direct Reports

Duties and responsibilities

  • Provide high quality customer service to clients at the Shine Dome.
  • Ability to work a flexible roster, including regularly outside of normal business hours (after hours and weekends).
  • Assist with room set-ups, pack-downs and refreshes.
  • Assist with food service, working closely with contracted catering company.
  • Be the point of contact for clients and suppliers during events.
  • Possess, or be willing to gain, a basic understanding of AV systems in the Shine Dome.
  • Display professionalism, have good attention to detail, take initiative, participate as an active member of the Corporate Services Department and the wider Academy.
  • Assist with administrative tasks as required.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment e.g. Code of Conduct, RSA, WHS, SWMS.
  • Undertake training and professional development opportunities as they arise.

Qualifications and experience

  • Current RSA Certificate, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Current First Aid Certificate, or the ability to obtain one.

Selection criteria

  • Relevant hospitality and/retail experience and a genuine passion for providing outstanding customer service.
  • Ability to work a flexible roster, including outside normal business hours (after hours work and weekends).
  • Ability to work in a small team, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • RSA and First Aid qualifications beneficial, however, not essential as the Academy will provide training for the right candidate.
