The iconic Shine Dome in Canberra is the home of the Australian Academy of Science - an independent not-for-profit organisation comprising Australia’s most distinguished scientists, 570 Fellows elected for their outstanding contributions to science and research. Together they uphold excellence in the scientific enterprise so that it can continue to support Australian society.

Before the pandemic hit, Canberra was struck by a severe hailstorm in January 2020 and the Shine Dome was significantly battered, requiring its copper cladded roof to be resurfaced, one tile at a time. Fortunately, insurance covered the cost of the repairs and the Academy's Council has decided to use the re-roofing of the Shine Dome as an opportunity to celebrate Australian science and increase the long-term endowment of the Academy.
