Merilyn Geary

Merilyn is currently employed as a Senior Technical Officer for the Department of Medical Entomology, within the Institute of Clinical Pathology and Medical Research, Westmead Hospital at Westmead, NSW. In this position she provides advice and maintains an identification services for arthropods that impinge on human health and welfare, which is a valuable service for pathologists, hospitals, medical professionals, local health authorities and the general public within Australia. Since moving to Westmead Hospital from the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in 1986 Merilyn has been involved in establishing and maintaining several different colonies of medically important insects (mosquitoes, bed bugs and flies) for research and sale.

Merilyn has authored/co-authored over 25 scientific publications and various governmental reports. In 1998, Merilyn pioneered the use of medicinal maggots for Maggot Debridement Therapy in Australia and now supplies the medical community interstate and overseas.
