Mission to Mars: Buzz Aldrin lands in Australia

The Academy's Secretary for Education and Public Awareness, Pauline Ladiges; Buzz Aldrin; and Academy President Andrew Holmes at the Melbourne show

The Australian Academy of Science partnered with Live on Stage Australia to bring Apollo 11 moon landing astronaut Dr Buzz Aldrin to Australia for two live shows in Sydney and Melbourne.

Joined on stage by CSIRO astrophysicist Dr Lisa Harvey-Smith and TV personality Ray Martin, Dr Aldrin spoke of his historic moon landing, his proprietary techniques for manned orbital rendezvous, and the science and politics of his vision of a human mission to Mars.

With sell-out audiences of 2,000 at each show, the Academy was pleased to have the opportunity to showcase its programs and help inspire space enthusiasts of all ages.

The Academy is grateful for the generous support of Live on Stage Australia, which has donated a portion of proceeds from ticket sales to help support its work in public education.
