Academy examines researcher mobility at APEC workshop

Director of International Programs at the Academy, Nancy Pritchard, was recently invited by the Department of Education and Training to speak at the ‘Researcher mobility among APEC countries’ workshop in Jakarta.

Ms Pritchard spoke about mid- and late-career researcher mobility from the perspective of the Academy, which has been managing mobility and exchange programs on behalf of the Australian Government for many years.

Participants from 12 APEC economies attended the workshop, held in December.

Presentations from experts drawn from a number of APEC economies addressed key themes such as the role of researcher mobility in stimulating APEC collaboration; regional and global trends in researcher mobility; and academia–industry research collaboration.

Participants discussed challenges encountered in relation to researcher mobility, possible solutions and opportunities to increase research mobility across the Asia–Pacific.

A number of recommendations focused on researcher mobility data, the economic impact of researcher mobility, priority fields of research and research integrity.
