Short citation at year of election

Philip Cohen is one of the world's most eminent biological scientists in the area of signal transduction. Cohen identified a family of calcium-calmodulin dependent protein kinases and phosphatases including calcineurin, which was later shown to be the target of the immunosuppressive drug cyclosporine. Cohen identified components of multiple signalling pathways and through the establishment of the Division of Signal Transduction Therapy has had a profound influence on translational research and pharmaceutical drug development in this field. Over more than 30 years Cohen has strongly influenced Australian Biochemistry through his multiple visits, lectures, hosting sabbatical visitors, postgraduate training and public lectures.
