Distinguished for his service to Australia for many years as Prime Minister, Mr. Menzies played a notable part in the foundation of the Academy, both by facilitating the arrangements for the granting of the Royal Charter and by providing the necessary financial support. By setting up the Committee on Australian Universities and by implementing in full its proposals, he has made a signal contribution to the advancement of Science in Australia.
