Eighth HOPE meeting, Tokyo, 2016

A delegation of six researchers travelled to Japan to attend the Eighth HOPE Meeting held at the Tsukuba International Congress Center (Tsukuba-city, Japan) from 7-11 March 2016. The subject fields for this year included physics, chemistry, physiology/medicine and related fields.

Lecturers at the Eighth HOPE Meeting included Professor Serge Haroche, Nobel Laureate in Physics 2012; Professor Shuji Nakamara, Nobel Laureate in Physics 2014; Professor Jean-Marie Lehn, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry 1987; Professor Ada Yonath, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry 2009; Professor Barry Marshall AC FAA FRS Nobel Laureate, Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine 2005 and other distinguished researchers.

At the closing ceremony, David McDonald was awarded the "Best Poster Presentation Award" which was only given to 5 of the 107 participating researchers.

Funding for Australian participants to attend the 8th HOPE meeting was from the Department of Education and Training.
