Sir Bernard Katz, Professor Emeritus and Honorary Research Fellow, University College London, has had a distinguished career in Physiology, recognised in 1970 by the award of the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology (jointly with U.S. von Euler and J. Axelrod). Sir Bernard has had a very close association with Australia since coming here in 1939, becoming naturalised in 1941, serving in the Royal Australian Air Force and marrying Marguerite Penly of Cremorne, New South Wales.
