The 2023 Boden Research Conference ‘Advancing the Science of Precision and Personalised Nutrition’, was held at the Shine Dome in Canberra on 19 and 20 October. The conference aimed to accelerate the implementation of Nourishing Australia’s pillar on precision and personalised nutrition as well as celebrating the state of the science at a national and international level.

The primary goal of the conference was to empower early to mid-career researchers (EMCRs) to take an active role in leading the implementation of the pillar’s recommendations by reviewing progress to date, setting new objectives, and collaborating with key organisational influencers. Implementation strategies were developed for two priority areas pertinent to precision and personalised nutrition

  • Nutrition mechanisms: identifying mechanisms by which diets, foods and nutrients influence human biology and defining how and why dietary patterns affect health and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Human behaviour: understanding and changing dietary behaviours, with consideration of societal determinants and the education and research training of nutrition professional.

EMCRs had the opportunity present on their research on precision and personalised nutrition in person at the conference.

Following the event, participants continued to collaborate in working groups to develop a program logic model that sets a strategy for this pillar. The summary report presents the collective efforts undertaken by the working group and informs the direction of an implementation plan, scheduled for publication in early 2024.
