The Australian Academy of Science welcomes Dr Rod Lamberts to the role of Engagement Director.

Dr Lamberts is an internationally recognised science communication expert and has been a practitioner, researcher, consultant and educator in the field for nearly three decades.

Dr Lamberts created some of the first university science communication courses in the world.

He has also provided advice and guidance to an array of science-focused public agencies and NGOs, the university sector and private companies in Australia and the region.

He is a passionate advocate for science, having provided commentary and insight into science and its role in society for more than 20 years across multiple media platforms and formats.

Dr Lamberts is an Honorary Associate Professor of science communication at the Centre for Public Awareness of Science at the Australian National University, and in his spare time he’s also a prolific podcaster.

Academy Chief Executive Anna-Maria Arabia welcomed Rod to the role.

“Rod has a deep commitment to and extensive experience communicating the value and benefits of science.

“Rod will lead the Academy’s strategic engagement for the organisation, one of three priorities in the Academy’s strategic plan.

“That means engaging with a broad range of stakeholders in Australia and abroad to advance science so that everyone can enjoy its benefits,” Ms Arabia said.
