Corresponding member signs charter book

April 19, 2016

Professor John Spence signed the Academy's charter book yesterday as a Corresponding Member at a ceremony at the Shine Dome.

Corresponding members are a special category within the Academy's Fellowship comprising eminent international scientists with strong ties to Australia.

Professor Spence is a world leader in the development and application of atomic-resolution electron microscopy and has made significant contributions to both biology and materials science. He is currently the Richard Snell Professor of Physics at Arizona State University and Director of Science at the National Science Foundation BioXFEL Science and Technology Center—a consortium of seven US universities devoted to the use of X-ray lasers for biology.

Professor Spence joins Professor Matthias Hentze, who was also invited to be a corresponding member in March.
