A kick start for start-ups at the Entrepreneurship Challenge

June 03, 2016

Groups of PhD students were given 24 hours to come up with innovative start-up ideas yesterday, pitting their designs against others in the Australian–French Entrepreneurship Challenge.

Forty-eight students from a range of institutions and research backgrounds participated in the challenge and took advantage of the workshops and expert mentoring on offer. Participants are displaying resilience, creativity, teamwork and a willingness to take risks as they brainstorm and refine their ideas, ready to pitch.

The winning team, to be picked by a grand jury of expert entrepreneurs, scientists and managers, will be sent to France for a first-hand experience of the country’s innovation system.

The event is sponsored by the Australian Academy of Science; the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science; the Embassy of France in Australia; the Australian National University; AusIndustry; Airbus; DCNS group; and Canberra Innovation Network.
