Taiwanese science delegation and Academy explore ways to strengthen research and industry links

A Taiwanese delegation, including the Taiwanese Minister of Science and Technology visited the Australian Academy of Science this week in Canberra.

The Minister Dr San-Cheng Chang visited the Academy to discuss the activities between the Academy and Taiwan. He was accompanied by Dr Chien Chou, Director General of the science ministry's Department of International Cooperation, Mr Stephen FY Kuo, Counsellor of the Science and Technology Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Vietnam, and representatives from the TECO Office in Australia.
 
The Taiwanese delegation met with Academy Vice-President Professor Chennupati Jagadish, Academy Fellow and Nobel Laureate Professor Brian Schmidt, and the Academy’s Director International Programs Ms Nancy Pritchard, to discuss links between research and industry in both countries and the ways in which the Academy aims to promote science in the general community.
 
Dr Chang was in Australia to attend the 9th Conference of the Asian Federation for Information Technology in Agriculture (AFITA) in Perth last month. In addition to meeting with the Academy, Dr Chang met with the Ministers for Industry and Telecommunications, Ian Macfarlane and Malcolm Turnbull, CSIRO and ATSE.
