Face-to-face meeting

The EMCR Forum Executive held its annual meeting in Canberra on 2 and 3 March. The meeting was an opportunity to welcome the new Executive members to the team, Dr Timothy Lau and Dr Yee Lian Chew, and get them up to speed with the activities of the Executive.

During these two days the Executive worked on their new strategic plan with Professor Moira Clay and set the priorities for activities in 2020, with a special focus on the promotion of healthy research environments for EMCRs.

Online events

On 25 March, Associate Professor Michael Bowen, Chair of the EMCR Forum Executive, officially announced that Science Pathways 2020: Global Dialogues has been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

As a result, the Executive has been working to revise its activities for the year and implement a strategy to support the EMCR community and keep researchers connected throughout this uncertain time. One of the opportunities that the EMCR Forum is offering is a series of webinars and virtual catch-ups designed to address the professional development needs of EMCRs in Australia and provide opportunities to network with your peers.

Dr Vanessa Wong and Dr Justine Shaw wrote a correspondence piece for Nature highlighting some of the key findings from the increasing diversity in prizes and awards best practice guide which the Forum developed in 2019 with the support of the Australian Academy of Science.
