In the last newsletter we highlighted the reSolve Champions Showcase held at the Shine Dome on 15 August. We now have a five-minute video featuring a snapshot from each of the 10 Champion presentation. This is on the reSolve website, and if you haven’t yet watched it please do. It is a wonderful advertisement for reSolve, for each of the 10 Champions, and for maths teaching generally.
Each of the more than 300 Champions has developed an Action Plan to guide their work this year and beyond. The Action Plans reflect the unique context in which each Champion works, but each includes some ideas for promoting a culture of excellence in the school, with local schools and with systems or professional associations more widely. If you are fortunate to have a reSolve Champion in your school, or have the opportunity to work with one, please offer them your support and encouragement.
We are looking to recruit a small number of new Champions in 2019, focusing on people from regional or remote areas, but not excluding others. The new intake of Champions will undertake a similar program to that of current Champions, including a two-day workshop in Sydney on 15–16 April 2019. If you would like to become a reSolve Champion or know of someone who would make a great Champion, please send me an email requesting further information.
As we move into a new year, many schools are developing their professional learning priorities and plans. You are welcome to contact me, or anyone from the reSolve team, if you think that a reSolve Champion might be able to contribute to your professional learning.
Mathematics conferences, such as the Mathematical Association of Victoria conference on 6 and 7 December, are great opportunities to learn more about reSolve. There are several conference sessions at MAV that feature reSolve or that draw on reSolve resources, including workshops by Kaye Stacey and Lucy Bates, and a keynote from me.
Look for other opportunities at mathematics association conferences in 2019, including a soon-to-be-announced one-day supplement on 12 July to the AAMT Conference in Brisbane, and the MERGA Teachers’ Day, sponsored by reSolve, in Perth on Saturday 29 June.
