Indonesia–Australia Young Scientist Forum 2025 

9-11 December 2025, Makassar Indonesia

The Australian Academy of Science and the Indonesian Young Academy of Sciences (ALMI) is inviting expressions of interest from early- and mid-career researchers (EMCRs) based in Australia to attend the Indonesia–Australia Young Scientist Forum, hosted by ALMI. 

The Forum will be held from 9 -11 December 2025 in Makassar, Indonesia, following the 4th National Congress of the Indonesia Young Academy and will bring together early-career researchers from across Indonesia and Australia to build connections, share research, and explore opportunities for collaboration. 

A maximum of five Australian EMCRs will be selected to attend the Forum.

Terms of award 

Successful applicants will receive funding to cover: 

  • International return economy airfare travel from Australia to Makassar 
  • Local transport within Indonesia 
  • Meals provided at the Forum. 

Successful applicants are responsible for arranging and funding their own insurance, visas and ground transport in Australia. 

Applicant eligibility 

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant: 

  • Must be based in Australia at the time of application 
  • Must have a PhD awarded no more than 15 years prior to the grant application deadline. An extension to this limit may be approved in the case of significant career interruptions. 
  • Must demonstrate expertise and experience relevant to Indonesian researchers and networks 
  • Can be working across all disciplines, including physical sciences, biological sciences, engineering, medical sciences, social sciences, and humanities and the arts 
  • Must be available to travel to Makassar from 9-11 December 2025. 

Applicants do not need to have existing research collaborations with Indonesian partners, though these are desirable. We welcome applications from researchers who can contribute expertise of relevance to Indonesian research communities and who are interested in building new partnerships, as well as those who can strengthen existing connections. 

Application process 

Expressions of Interest must be submitted via the Good Grants online portal, and include the following material and supporting documentation: 

  • Short CV, including publications list 

Applications must be complete at the time of submission to be considered. Incomplete applications, including those missing any required supporting material, will be deemed ineligible and will not proceed to merit assessment. 

Key dates 

  • Expressions of Interest applications open: 8 September 2025 
  • Expressions of Interest applications close: 5pm AEST 30 September 2025 
  • Notification of outcome: Mid-October 2025 
  • Dates of travel: 9-11 December 2025
